Gas up and go

With residents worried about the cost of gas, there could come a day when it's cheaper to rent a car ... at home. For now, Castle Resorts & Hotels is running a "T'anks Hawaii" promotion for travel completed by Dec. 15.

The promotion includes discounted rates, a free compact rental car and free gas when booking a stay at participating Castle properties on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. "(It's) our way of saying thanks to the local resident market," said Alan Mattson, president of Castle Resorts & Hotels.

Rates for T'anks Hawaii start from $97 on Oahu, from $99 on the Big Island, from $135 on Maui and from $179 on Kauai. Participating resorts are Island Colony and Waikiki Shore on Oahu; Kamaole Sands on Maui; Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Kona Reef and Kona Bali Kai on the Big Island; Kiahuna Plantation & the Beach Bungalows, Poipu Shores, Makahuena at Poipu, Lae Nani and Lanikai Resorts, Kaha Lani Resort on Kauai.

Old Lahaina benefit

The Friends of Moku'ula will be the beneficiary of a portion of funds raised during a night at Old Lahaina Lu'au Traditional Hula and Feast beginning at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 1.

Guests will enjoy the dinner and show at $85 for adults and $55 for children 12 and under, while a portion of the luau price benefits the nonprofit established to "protect, preserve and restore culturally significant native Hawaiian pre-contact sites."

Rediscover Hana

The Hotel Hana-Maui and Honua Spa, recently rated on Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards and World's Best Service "Top 10 Hawaii" lists, is offering a "Discover Hana Escape."

The package includes three nights with the fourth night free in select Sea Ranch Cottages offering dramatic views of the ocean and mountains, with spacious, high-ceiling living rooms, oversize bathroom, wet bar and lanai deck.

Rates start from $525 per night for an Ocean View Sea Ranch Cottage and $895 per night for an Ocean Front Suite with Spa. The package is valid Oct. 1 through Dec. 22 and Jan. 4 through 15.

The rate is offered on new bookings only, for single or double occupancy, and is not valid with any other group or package rates or special offers. Taxes and gratuities are not included in the price.
