The sixth edition of the "Hawaii Audubon Society Hawaii's Birds" features a revised text and scores of full-color photos. "Hawaiian Legends of Dreams"
By Caren Loebel-Fried
(University of Hawaii Press $19.95)

Having no written language, Hawaiians passed their history and life lessons down in the form of legends, which were committed to memory and told and retold. Artist Caren Loebel-Fried retells nine dream stories from Hawaii's past. The writing is appropriate for the subject matter and the quality of the full-color "block printing" artwork is first-rate.
