Kapono Beamer dedicates
new album to wife, Dayna

The excellent photography on Kapono Beamer's new "Slack Key Dreams of the Ponomoe" CD cover and pamphlet is by his wife, the former Dayna Dias. Kapono dedicated the CD to her. Dayna, who is a U.S. Immigration judge, and Kapono have more to celebrate than the album. They are marking their first wedding anniversary this weekend at Manele Bay on Lanai. As for "Ponomoe," most of the songs are in Hawaiian, composed by Kapono. His mellow, soothing vocals, excellent guitar work and smooth arrangements make the CD a worthy addition to any music collection. And I just love his humorous hapa-haole composition "Bullah Ilio." It's fun and has a great beat ...

Jimmy Borges and Betty Loo Taylor packed 'em in on the Kahala Mandarin's Veranda Thursday, the first of two nights that Jimmy and Betty celebrated 33 years of performing together around this town. Singer Augie Rey joined the group. Other guest singers included Rhonda, Lulee Fisher and George Cassarno, who sang in French ... Joan Boada, Cuban-born principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet who came here to star in Ballet Hawaii's "Coppelia" opposite his girlfriend from Hawaii, Amanda Schull, has interests other than dance. Ann McCormack's here visiting son Don Stroud

Former isle singer Ann McCormack arrived Tuesday to visit her son, actor Don Stroud, a Kaimuki High grad, and his wife, Teri. Ann and her late husband, Paul Livermore, owned the Embers supperclub where she sang after they came here in 1950. "I still sing good and I still look good," says Ann, who is never at a loss for words. She'll be in town for a month before heading home to Las Vegas ... "Entertainment Tonight" on Thursday screened interviews with "Lost" stars at the Waikiki Beach Wednesday showing of the season's opening show ...
