Hawaii Pacific University will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a pep rally and entertainment Friday at its Fort Street Mall campus.
The daylong celebration will begin with Club Carnival, where students learn about student organizations on campus and are given a chance to join, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will also be musical entertainment throughout the day.
The pep rally, featuring the Sea Warrior Band, HPU cheerleaders and the costumed Sharky mascot, will begin at 12:45 p.m.
A 40-foot-long cake commemorating HPU's birthday will be served.
To commemorate the signing of Hawaii Pacific's charter (HPU was granted a charter of incorporation on Sept. 17, 1965), HPU will host a cake-cutting ceremony for staff, faculty and students with a 40-foot-long cake on Fort Street Mall at the pep rally.
The anniversary celebration will be capped off with a VIP event for distinguished alumni, donors and community leaders, as well as an HPU company picnic that weekend.
HPU is the state's largest private university.
