Prince earns WAC Player of the Week honors

Hawaii's Victoria Prince is the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball player of the Week.

It's the first such honor for Prince, who was an All-American in 2004.

Prince hit .442 with 3.00 kills per game and 1.22 blocks per game in a victory over previously unbeaten UCLA and sweeps over Cincinnati and Cal State Northridge.

Against the Matadors, Prince set a school and Waikiki Beach Marriott tournament rally-scoring record with a .909 hitting percentage.

Thanks to the 3-0 week, the Rainbow Wahine moved up a notch to sixth in yesterday's CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Rainbow Wahine (5-3) will next host No. 2 Washington on Friday and Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Huskies (7-0) received three first-place votes in remaining behind top-ranked Nebraska (8-0); the Huskers received 57 first-place votes.

The rest of the top five stayed the same with Stanford (8-1) third, followed by Penn State (6-2) and Minnesota (6-1). The biggest move was by Notre Dame, which jumped from No. 19 to No. 8 after victories over USC and Florida.

6 Hawaii tennis teams advance to nationals

Six teams from the USTA/Hawaii Pacific Section advanced to the national championship after winning the USA League Super Senior Sectional Championships last weekend at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The 6.0 and 7.0 teams play Oct. 17-19 in Palm Springs, Calif. The 8.0 teams play Oct. 24-26 at the same site.
