Daws to discuss
novel by Bushnell
Windward College hosts a series
of talks on Hawaiian topics

The author of "Shoal of Time" and "Land and Power in Hawaii" will speak next Tuesday at Windward Community College.
Gavin Daws' talk, "Bushnell as Friend and Writer," will discuss A.O. Bushnell's "Kaaawa," a historical novel set in the 1850s.
The event is the first in a series of talks on the book, and will start at 7 p.m. at Paliku Theatre.
There will also be three free lectures this month at Windward Community College. They will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Hale Kuhina, Room 115, on:
» Thursday, as Jon Osorio, acting director of the University of Hawaii-Manoa Center for Hawaiian Studies, talks about "Mele and Spirit: Music and the Hawaiian Identity."
» Sept. 22, as Jackie Chong, a native Hawaiian healing practitioner, delivers a lecture, "Talk Story -- Kahaluu Style."
» Sept. 29, as Kauila Clark, former owner of the Hygienic Store, discusses "Living Well -- Hawaiian Style."
