Way back when I was a teenager and my dogs got sick, they'd eat grass and I'd give them a worm pill and everything usually worked out fine. But today it's a new pet game, that's for sure. Just ask Starr Sutherland. Starr is the daughter of Conne and Campbell Estate heir Jon Sutherland. She has opened Pets in the City, a pet spa on Young Street. Services offered include doggie daycare, pet grooming, pet boarding an anesthesia-free pet dentist and a pet taxi providing service from downtown to Hawaii Kai. "We also have a cute boutique filled with lots of fun items for cats and dogs," Starr says. "Soon we will be having a pet psychic, acupuncturist, behavioral training and a pet masseuse." Mihana Souza, with her hot CD "One Little Dream" recently released, departed Wednesday to go on tour with 97-year-old uke player and singer Bill Tapia. They will perform in California, Seattle and Nevada cities and return Sept. 19. Bill is hoping to make the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest unionized touring musician. A cameraman will be aboard their recreational vehicle to verify the tour. Bassist Ruth Davis and drummer Akira Tannen round out the group. Mihana said she is excited about working with Bill because he plays all the music of her parents' era ...

Borges, Taylor mark 33 years of musical harmony

Singer Jimmy Borges and pianist Betty Loo Taylor are celebrating a musical union that goes back 33 years Thursday and Friday nights on the Kahala Mandarin's Veranda. Drummer Sonny Froman and Brien Matson, who plays trombone and bass, fill out Betty's trio. The action starts at 7:30 and guest performers are expected. It should be a swell party.
