THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF
HAWAIIAN LIFE
IN THE UNIVERSE

art

Wayne and Sandi "Castle" Stirling of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, vacationed on Kauai and Oahu for two weeks in February. Sandi, a sand sculptor, was so impressed with the hula dancers that she decided to carve a hula girl welcoming a surfer boy from the waves. The sculpture took 21 hours to complete at the Revere Beach Master Sandsculpting competition in Boston, Mass. Although she did not win in Boston, Sandi went on to win first prize at the Sauble Beach sandfest in Ontario by sculpting just the hula girl in five hours.

"The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe" is just that: We're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii.
