Former Hawaii guard Anthony Carter was re-signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Carter was a free agent after averaging 2.7 points and 2.4 assists last season, his first with Minnesota. He played in 66 games, starting 12.
"Anthony is a veteran point guard who has proven his ability to run a team when he's on the court," Minnesota's vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said on the team's Web site. "He excels on the defensive end of the floor and helps to solidify our backcourt."
Carter, a 6-2, 195-pound guard, is entering his seventh season in the NBA, making stops in Miami and San Antonio before joining the Timberwolves last year.
Carter dished out a UH-record 6.9 assists per game in three seasons with the Rainbow Warriors, and holds the school record for assists in a season with 212 (1997-98). He also ranks second in scoring average for a season with 18.4 points per game in 1997-98.
Carl English, another former UH guard, has signed with Virtus Bologna of the Italian League. He spent the last two seasons in the NBDL and played with the Cleveland Cavaliers' summer league team earlier this year. He also had tryouts with the Indiana Pacers and Seattle SuperSonics after leaving UH in 2003.
