And now he needs
an attorney
A wanted fugitive allegedly tried to pass himself off as a prominent Honolulu attorney while trying to cash a forged check from the victim's law firm last week.
Jonathan Saatkamp, 27, was arrested after allegedly posing as attorney Bill McCorriston, head of the law firm McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon, at the Bank of Hawaii branch in the Moiliili Star Market on Friday. McCorriston, 60, is one of the state's more recognizable lawyers, with such big-name clients as Kamehameha Schools, former Gov. John Waihee and former labor leader Tony Rutledge.
Saatkamp allegedly walked into the bank at about 1:20 p.m. and presented a forged withdrawal slip and a forged check, both of which had been stolen during an earlier burglary at McCorriston's office building at Restaurant Row. However, bank personnel had already been alerted to fraudulent activity on the account and recognized that the suspect was not who he said he was, and called police.
Police have been looking for Saatkamp in connection with a May 13 purse snatching and burglary involving the theft of $50,000 worth of jewelry from a woman's apartment. Surveillance video showed the suspect entering the condominium elevator at 11:31 a.m.
The suspect gained access to the victim's apartment after stealing her purse from the Kuakini Medical Center while she was in a meeting there earlier in the day. After the burglary, police said the suspect continued to rack up charges on the victim's credit cards.
When police arrested Saatkamp, they found the vehicle he had driven to the bank had been reported stolen and that inside were stolen items from a burglary, including keys and banking information.
