I am always ready to see a good band, and I plan to catch the blues and rock band Downtown Charley and the Humbones as they start their weekly show at Panama Hatties tonight.

While I am a little more hesitant about seeing comedians I am not familiar with -- as I don't know their material -- I'm going to take a chance and see the comedy show put on by Mel Cabang out at Dot's in Wahiawa. I haven't seen his comedy routine before, but based on the reputation he's built up in the community, I'm sure it will be an interesting evening.

I've got two weddings to go to this weekend (congrats to Wendy Hamura and Stacie Nakamura!), so I'll probably end up missing a lot of this year's Labor Day weekend festivities.

Luckily, there's Wednesday night at Next Door with the godfather of hip-hop, DJ Kool Herc. But after witnessing the lack of support Public Enemy received here last month, I'm worried that Herc will get the same kind of treatment. Don't sleep on this one!
