Seariders glide to No. 4;
Red Raiders stay on top
Waianae goes from unranked
to fourth place after defeating
Saint Louis 30-20
The only team to endure was one that did not even play.
Kahuku, which enjoyed a bye week, collected all 15 first-place votes in today's Star-Bulletin Football Top 10 poll. The Red Raiders defeated Kamehameha on Aug. 19 before taking the week off.
As if the Red Raiders needed more help, senior running back Malosi Te'o is back with the team. Te'o was expected to return home to the mainland for his senior year. Instead, his parents decided to grant him his wish to play and graduate at Kahuku.
His return gives Kahuku probably the strongest 1-2 combination at running back of any team in the state. Kamuela Alisa rushed for 100 yards on 17 attempts in the win over Kamehameha.
The rest of the Top 10 looks like debris from a hurricane. A surprise win by Waianae over visiting Saint Louis at Raymond Torii Field on Friday shook up the poll in Week 2. Five teams moved up the ladder and four slipped.
Waianae, unranked last week, debuted in the poll at No. 4, just a shade above Punahou.
The Buffanblu faced Kapolei, which was ranked eighth last week, and outslugged the Hurricanes 35-21 on Saturday. That boosted Punahou four spots to No. 5.
Saint Louis took the biggest drop, from No. 2 to the eighth position. Kapolei dropped out of the poll, as did last week's No. 10 team, Campbell.
Moanalua, one of the hottest teams in the state, upset the Sabers 20-7 on Friday and remains on the cusp.
Lahainaluna, with a lopsided win over Pac-Three, landed in the poll at No. 10.
