The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Hoku lifts 3.5 percent
Hoku Scientific Inc., which plans to release its first quarterly earnings report as a publicly traded company on Sept. 7, rose 3.5 percent this week to lead the way in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The fuel-cell technology developer closed yesterday at $6, the same as its offering price when it went public on Aug. 5.
Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. was the only other local company to finish with a gain as its stock edged up 0.2 percent to $26.61.
Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. brought up the rear as it fell 6.7 percent to 2.8 cents.
