Pipeline winner
will get $1,000
Classes might have already started for the college crowd, but local promoters are hoping to squeeze out one last weekend of fun.
Tonight at Pipeline Cafe, Island Crown Entertainment presents "Thousand Dollar Thursday," a one-time only event that features cash giveaways all night. And no, it's not a thousand dollars split between a bunch of people -- one person will walk out with a grand in cash all to themselves.
Doors open at 9 p.m. at the Pipe, and 10 bucks gets you inside. San Francisco's DJ MadMoney will be on hand to provide the night's soundtrack ...
OVER AT the Wave Waikiki, Blue Fire Unlimited hosts "Hawaii on tha Come Up," a showcase of local hip-hop acts that starts tonight at 9 p.m.
Wave resident DJs Jrama and D-Muthafunkin-D will be joined by DJs Elite and Durtie Rice, and there will be live performances by Aiga, Mike and Devon, Soul Pacific and Upolu. This one is for those 18-and-over ...
IF HIP-HOP and mainstream clubs aren't your style, take a trip downtown to Indigo for the last show ever by Space Catalog.
Billed as "This is the End," the band will be joined by Linus, Port Guyana and Anton Glamb. They should also have copies of their five-song EP, "Resolve," on sale for those who just don't want to say goodbye.
The farewell show is scheduled to kickoff around 9 p.m. tonight; call 521-2900 for info ...
THIS WEEKEND also brings the annual "Hawaii Streetcar Showoff" back to Blaisdell Arena.
Running from 6 to 11 p.m. tomorrow, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, the car show gives local import enthusiasts the chance to showcase their rides and check out the best others in the scene have to offer.
Besides the cars, each night will feature different contests. A booty contest will be held on Friday, with a bikini contest on Saturday and a R/C drift contest on Sunday. Import models Serena Lee, Alexia Lei, Flo Jalin, Jeri Lee and Christine Mendoza will be on hand, as will adult film goddess Charmaine Star.
Admission for the show is $10; call 593-7992 or visit www.streetcarshowoff.com for more details ...
AND DON'T forget to cheer on local mixed martial artist Anthony Torres on Monday night at 8 p.m., as he competes for a UFC contract in "The Ultimate Fighter" on cable network Spike TV. Torres didn't get a lot of face time in the first episode, but that just reminds me of how Jasmine Trias was never seen early on during her "American Idol" run. Turns out she did pretty good -- let's hope Torres does, too ...
