Oahu wins Cal Ripken World SeriesKalani Lagoc-Crawford hurled four shutout innings and drove in the game's only run with a second-inning double to lead Oahu over Team Mexico 1-0 yesterday in title game of the Cal Ripken World Series in Lexington, Ky.Lagoc-Crawford fanned 11 batters before yielding to relievers Jordan DePonte and Kewby Meyer. Meyer struck out the side in the sixth and final frame. Team Mexico managed to get just one base hit. Oahu's only run came in the bottom of the second, when Lagoc-Crawford doubled off Mexico's Axel Rios, scoring Ryan Yamane, who had also doubled.
Hawaii tennis teams advanceNine teams from the USTA/Hawaii Pacific Section have qualified for the national championship.The five women's teams that advanced to the nationals are Gerald Watanabe, M.D. (4.5), Howard Tacub Tennis (4.0), Hawaii Wealth Management (3.5), Sugoi (3.0) and Tennis in Motion (2.5). The four men's teams that move on are Kaneohe (4.5), First One In (4.0), Schadenfreude (3.5) and McCully Ducks (3.0). The 5.0, 4.0 and 2.5 level nationals will be played in Palm Springs, Calif. The 4.5 and 3.5 level nationals will be played in Tucson, Ariz.
Bento named to Division II All-America teamFormer Saint Louis School kicker Ha'a Bento was named to the NCAA Division II Preseason All-America team by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.Bento of Texas A&M-Commerce led the Lone Star Conference with 18 field goals last year. He twice hit four field goals in a game.
