» Shane Victorino (St. Anthony) was named the International League Batter of the Week for the week ending Aug. 14. He compiled a .542 batting average (13-for-24) with three doubles, three triples, a homer and seven runs batted in. It was the second such honor in three weeks for Victorino who leads the IL with 15 triples.
» Josh Green (Hawaii) was the the Arizona Division Player of the Week for the week ending Aug. 7 in the Golden Baseball League. The outfielder hit .481 with six runs scored and seven RBI. Green's defensive play also was spectacular, helping the Surprise Fightin' Falcons to a 6-1 record that week.
» Brandon Chaves (Hilo, Hawaii-Hilo) was 9-for-22 (.409) last week with four doubles, a triple and five RBI to raise his average to .300.
» Darren Blakely (Hawaii) tops the Birmingham Barons with 74 RBI. The outfielder had a good week going 10-for-28 (.357) with four doubles, a triple, home run and 10 RBI.
» Bronson Sardinha (Kamehameha) leads the Trenton Thunder with 29 doubles.
» After 16 solid relief appearances, Steve Bryant (Hawaii) had his first bad outing Friday night. The right-hander entered the game in the eighth inning to protect a 3-2 lead. He gave up four hits, walked a batter and was tagged for five earned runs in a 7-4 loss to Boise.
» Justin Wayne (Punahou, Stanford) signed with the Somerset (N.J.) Patriots of the independent Atlantic League Tuesday. The right-hander was released by the Florida Marlins during spring training. He had brief stints with the Las Vegas 51s and the Omaha Royals, both in the Pacific Coast League, earlier this summer before being released.
» Kahi Kaanoi (Kamehameha) was released by the Kansas City Royals last Sunday. The right-hander battled a tight shoulder muscle and tendinitis in his right shoulder and only pitched one inning in the past six weeks.
