People gathered along Waikiki beach yesterday afternoon for ResortQuest Hawaii's Honolulu Centennial Hula on the Beach. Organizers were trying to set the world record for the longest hula line. Residents and tourists alike danced to the song "I Fell in Love with Honolulu." At right are members of Moanalua High School's hula class. Hula organizers have contacted the Guinness Book of World Records to have the event officially recognized as a record.

Matthew Pace, superintendent for Island Demo Inc., kept dust down with a hose yesterday morning, as an excavator hauled a piece of debris into a dumpster at the historic Kakaako Pump Station. Three non-historic structures were removed by demolition experts, state and city government workers and public- and private-sector volunteers, as part of a redevelopment effort by the Hawaii Community Development Authority to restore the wastewater pump site.
