The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Penny stock gains
Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., which trades as a penny stock on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board, rose 15.4 percent to lead an uneventful week for local companies in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The producer of nutritional products from microalgae gained four-tenths of a cent to 3 cents.
The only other companies with gains were ML Macadamia Orchards LP, up 0.3 percent to $6.05, and Bank of Hawaii Corp., up 0.1 percent to $50.67.
Honolulu-based oil and gas exploration company Barnwell Industries Inc. brought up the rear as it fell 8.1 percent to $56.50.
