» Ricky Bauer (Hawaii) finally made his first professional appearance last week for the Giants in the Arizona League. The right-hander has spent most of the summer doing mandatory exercises to counter tendinitis in his right shoulder.
"I beaned the first batter I faced as a pro," said Bauer, who then fanned the next batter, got a grounder to second and struck out the third batter in his inning of work. Getting more regular time on the mound might be a problem, as there are 22 pitchers on the Giants' roster.
» Kea Kometani (Punahou, Pepperdine) earned his second victory of the season last Sunday in a 2-0 Midwest League win over Peoria. The right-hander pitched one-hit ball for six innings, walked no one and struck out nine.
» Shane Komine (Kalani, Nebraska) has been promoted twice in the past two weeks. The right-hander began the season late with the Athletics in the Arizona League after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was then sent to Stockton in the Class A California League for two games, then transferred to Midland in the Class AA Texas League last week.
» Josh Green (Hawaii) hit .444 (12-for-27) last week with five doubles.
» Jaziel Mendoza (Hawaii) belted two doubles and three home runs among his eight hits last week.
» Kahi Kaanoi (Kamehameha) has not pitched for the High Desert Mavericks of the California League since June 24 because of tendinitis in his right shoulder. He was placed on the disabled list July 27 and may be done for the summer with the regular season ending Sept. 5.
» It has been a tough season for two of the three Sardinha brothers in the pro ranks.
Duke (Kamehameha, Pepperdine) struggled trying to come back from a second surgery on his right wrist and has not played since the end of June. The Colorado Rockies finally sent him to Denver for another surgery to clean out scar tissue and he is done for the year.
Dane (Kamehameha, Pepperdine) suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee last Sunday. The prognosis after an MRI is that surgery is not necessary, but rehabilitation will take four to six weeks, so he is done for the season.
» Jerome Williams' (Waipahu) statistics do not include his games with the San Francisco Giants early in the season.
» Chad Giannetti (Punahou, Hawaii, New Mexico), a right-handed pitcher, was released by the Mid-Missouri Mavericks (Columbia, Mo.) of the independent Frontier League on July 19.
