‘Guy,’ steps into a stage role

As a senior adviser to Gov. Linda Lingle, Lenny Klompus has a big job handling communications. He's also busy nowadays at Army Community Theatre, rehearsing for "Guys and Dolls," opening Sept. 8. Lenny stars as Sky Masterson, whom many will remember as the "Guy" Marlon Brando played in the musical's movie version. KHON-TV's Tina Shelton as Sarah is the leading lady in the Army show. Lenny's show-biz career goes way back. He won top prize in a shopping center singing contest when he was just 4. By the time he "matured" at age 8, he was doing impressions of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin in the "hood." Lenny has worked in radio and TV on the mainland and has performed in community theater here ...

Take a walk in Bishop Museum country with the Makaha Sons Thursday. Bank of Hawaii is presenting the Sons in the final Moonlight Mele on the Lawn Concert for this season. The Sons always put on a good show. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7. Call 847-3511 for ticket information ... Eileen Mortenson Communications has published the 2005 editions of "Crucial News Contacts in Hawaii" at $129.95 and "The Directory of Hawaii Organizations" for $99.90. Boots on the Beach honors Ron Slagle

Ron Slagle, a prostate cancer survivor, is this year's Boots on the Beach honoree for his strong fight against the disease. The event, a benefit for the Hawaii Pacific Chapter of the American Cancer Society, will be held Nov. 4 at the Kahala Mandarin. Carole Brooks and Dicey Brinck are co-chairs. Ron heads RGS Sales Corp. He underwent an eight-week Proton Radiation Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California. His treatment took an unexpected romantic turn when he met radiation therapist Pam Nurre. Pam not only treated him daily but also captured his heart. She is now here with the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. Ron has been cancer free for 2 1/2 years.
