Apocalypse is theme
of conference

Nationally known evangelists will present Bible-based advice for spiritual and personal growth at the annual Christian growth conference sponsored by Calvary Chapel Honolulu.

Harvest Crusades preacher Greg Laurie and the Rev. Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, will be headliners at the Aug. 27 seminar at the Hawai'i Convention Center. "Excel Still More" is the theme of the all-day event, which is free and open to the public. Acoustic guitarist Dennis Agajanian, Christian Country Music Association's entertainer of the year, will perform.

The conference will kick off a five-night series, "In the Last Days," at which speakers will explore whether terrorism and natural disasters fulfill biblical prophecies about the end times on earth and the return of Jesus Christ. The speakers will include Smith, David Hocking, host of the California-based "Hope for Today" Christian radio show, and Roni Simon, who speaks on Arab-Israeli issues. Also on the roster are David Rosales of A Foundation for Living and the Rev. Brian Michaels of Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel, as well as local pastors Bill Stonebraker, Derald Skinner and Ralph Moore.

The evening series will open at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the convention center and continue at 7 p.m. nightly through Aug. 31 at Calvary Chapel Honolulu, 98-1016 Komo Mai Drive, Aiea. The sessions will also feature Agajanian and Hawaii church musicians. Admission is free.
