The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Hoku gets jump-start
Hoku Scientific Inc., the newest member of the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index, jumped 16.1 percent this week to lead 10 other local companies. The Kalihi-based fuel-cell technology developer closed yesterday at $6.22, up 3.7 percent from its initial public offering price of $6 on Aug. 5.
Cyanotech Corp., which announced this week it returned to profitability last quarter with a 35.4 percent year-over-year gain, rose 3 percent to $1.07.
The only other stock to finish in the green was Alexander & Baldwin Inc., which edged up 0.7 percent to $51.75.
