CRIB NOTES
A Showcase for the artsIf you're looking for something to fill those blank walls, stop into "Showcase 2005" at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.A preview art sale takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Henry R. Luce Gallery, with more than 500 original pieces by well-known Hawaii artists available for $80 to $1,000, much less than their works usually command. Several artists also will speak in the Doris Duke Theatre about their works, and offer tips for new collectors. Admission to the sale and talks is free. Then return Sunday for the festive ambience surrounding Showcase's "Evening of Food, Wine and Fine Art," with food from 11 restaurants and 18 wine purveyors. Guests of honor will be artists Satoru Abe, Alan Leitner and Hiroki Morinoue. Tickets are $85. The theme of the event is "Passion," reflected in the food and artwork on display and available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the academy's children's art programs. For more information, call 532-8746.
