in for UH grads

Summer commencement exercises for the University of Hawaii at Manoa will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Arena. More than 800 students will receive degrees.

The keynote speaker is former "Star Trek" star George Takei, who portrayed Mr. Sulu in the television series and movies. Takei has also served two terms on President Clinton's Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission and has been recognized by the Japanese government as a recipient of the Order of the Rising Son, Gold Rays with Rosette.

Michelle Buysse, who will receive her bachelor's degree in English, will speak on behalf of the summer 2005 graduating class. She is a member of Sigma Delta Pi National Honor Society, and a published poet.

Doors to the Stan Sheriff Center will open at 8 a.m. for the combined undergraduate and advanced degree ceremony. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Balloons and strollers are not allowed inside the Stan Sheriff Center.

Friends and family members may greet graduates following the ceremony at Les Murakami Stadium.
