MADE IN HAWAIIFruit and butter make
|
These tropical fruit butters are a blend of real cream butter and fruit purées slow cooked in a pressure-type kettle. The result is a rich and creamy fruit butter that can simply be enjoyed on a cracker or drizzled over pancakes and ice cream.
The butters are packaged in 8-ounce jars, available at specialty gift shops including Pat's Island Delights, Executive Chef and Compleat Kitchen. Prices range from $5 to $7 a jar.
Kilauea Trading Co. will also be selling its butters and other products available at the Made in Hawaii Festival Aug. 19 to 21 at Blaisdell Center.
Participating restaurants include Mr. Ojisan, 3660 on the Rise, Yatai Sushi, Musashi and Kacho. Along with the food and drink, there will be a silent auction and entertainment by comedian Paul Ogata.
Tickets are $50; $45 for AAJA members. The ticket price includes admission to the Feng Shui party at Ciao Mein afterward. Proceeds benefit scholarships, internships and other activities of the association. Each year AAJA-Hawaii offers up to $1,500 in college scholarships and up to $4,000 for paid internships at Honolulu's two daily newspapers for aspiring journalism students.
