The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Cyanotech tops $1
Cyanotech Corp., which produces nutritional products from microalgae grown on the Big Island, rose 4.4 percent this week to lead nine other local stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The company's shares, down 27.9 percent for the year, closed yesterday at $1.04.
Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. was the only other local company to finish in the green as it gained 2.1 percent to $27.50.
The worst performer was Barnwell Industries Inc., which fell 6.6 percent to $63.31. Barnwell's shares, though, are up 70.8 percent this year.
