Chinese masterworks

RECALL your history les-sons on Asia, and perhaps you'll remember that the Chinese have produced fine porcelain artwork for centuries. Thanks to art collector Rosalind Ching Pastor, we all get a chance to see some fine specimens of such artwork at the Honolulu Academy of Arts through Sept. 25.

Pastor has allowed the academy to display some 50 pieces in "Masterworks of Chinese Art from the Rosalind Ching Pastor Collection." While the collection features mostly porcelains of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, visitors also will view rare items, including a ceramic from the Northern Wei dynasty of the 6th century, a ceramic pillow from the Northern Song dynasty (960-1125) that belonged to a Qing emperor and early- and mid-20th century paintings and scrolls.

The Honolulu Academy of Arts is located at 900 S. Beretania St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $7 general; $4 seniors, students and military; and free to children 12 and under. Validated parking is $3 across the street at the Academy Art Center parking lot. Call 532-8700 for more information.
