CONGRATULATIONS, KEALOHA!: Kealoha Kalama Cabral, center, was the guest of honor Saturday at the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu 2005 Holoku Ball in the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The HCCH honored Cabral for her many years of work as a singer, dancer, musician and teacher. Her son, Sid Kahoonei, left, and daughter, Kaleinani Scoggins, were dressed for the occasion when they joined their mother for her big night at the Royal.

HAVE A SEAT!: John Koko helped Kanoe Cazimero show off her custom-designed Holoku Ball ensemble. Cazimero made a fabulous fashion statement by pairing an "old-fashioned retro halter top" with a black cellophane hula skirt and heels.

BEFORE THE BALL: Holoku Ball emcee Keaumiki Akui, right, talked with Kimo Alama Keaulana. Akui got lots of laughs with jokes about Kealoha Kalama Cabral being old enough to have danced hula for King Kalakaua.

NOW HE KNOWS: Academy Award-winning producer John Daly, center, joined Matt Waggener, Marlene Sai, Leo Anderson Akana and Lulani Arquette Sunday at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel to announce a local film project titled "Motherland." Daly, who is also seeking investors for his new indie film, "The Aryan Couple," said Hawaii is so beautiful "I now know why (Captain) Cook came back."

THE RING ROCKS ANNA'S: Chad Ikezawa, left, Bryan Brundell, Peter Bond and Beano Shots, rocked Anna Bannana's Sunday with the one-night reunion of Oriental Love Ring. OLR was cutting-edge local rock 15 years ago, and their first set on Sunday showed that local rock hasn't evolved much since then.
