Lakers-Warriors tickets available Saturday

Tickets for the NBA preseason games between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Lakers and Warriors open their preseason schedules with games at the Stan Sheriff Center, Oct. 11 and 12. Tip is 7 p.m. both nights.

Tickets range from $10 to $80 and are available online at www.etickethawaii.com or by phone at 944-2697. They can also be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office, the Aloha Stadium box office, the UH Campus Center, the Rainbowtique at Ward Center, and the OCET office at Windward Community College.

The Lakers will hold training camp at UH starting Oct. 4. The Warriors will train on the Brigham Young-Hawaii campus in Laie.

Mililani has new basketball, volleyball coaches

Mililani hired two new coaches, according to athletic director Glenn Nitta. Hiram Akina is the Trojans' new basketball coach. He takes over for Mike Coito.

Dexter Young takes over for Rudy Sambrano as the new girls volleyball coach.

U.S. collegiate figure skating at Ice Palace

The Hawaii Figure Skating Club hosts the 2005 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships, Aug. 9-12, at the Ice Palace .

The U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned event is for top skaters enrolled in college, recently graduated or incoming freshmen.

More than 80 skaters from 40 colleges -- including two from the University of Hawaii -- are expected to compete in men's and women's singles.

2 make volleyball junior national team

Hawaii setter Brian Beckwith and middle/hitter Jake Schkud made the final cut for the USA Volleyball junior national men's team yesterday following tryouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Beckwith and Schkud were among 12 players named to compete for the U.S. at next month's Under-21 World Championships in India.

Hawaii team leads America's Cup golf tourney

Hawaii leads Oregon by one stroke after the first day of the Boys Junior America's Cup competition at the Powder Horn Ranch in Sheridan, Wyo.

Hawaii posted a first-round total of 216, led by Jacob Low's 69.

Rosebud edges Pegasus in Transpac

Roger Sturgeon's Rosebud won Division II of the Transpacific Yacht Race, edging Philippe Kahn's Pegasus.

Pegasus finished at 11:14 p.m. Monday, but Rosebud followed at 2:25 a.m. yesterday, with 39 minutes to spare on the 3 hours, 50 minutes Pegasus owed her in corrected handicap time.

Hawaii team captures CABA tournament

David Torigoe struck out 11 batters to lead Team Hawaii to a 6-1 win over the Orland Park Sparks in the championship game of the Continental Amateur Baseball Association Illinois Slamfest Invitational. Deshawn Duncan-Benson and Mysha Sataraka both tripled for the team of Hawaii 10-year-olds. Micah Camara had a double.

» At Fullerton, Calif., Mililani beat Chula Vista 9-6 and will play Chula Vista again tomorrow in the final of the Pony 13s Zone Tournament. Kacey Miyasato had three hits with two doubles to lead the way.
