WAILUKU » A man accused of hitting and grabbing an 11-year-old boy at Queen Kaahumanu Center in Kahului is scheduled to be arraigned in Maui Circuit Court on Aug. 2.
Antonio Rocetes' bail was set at $10,000 after probable cause was found to charge him with kidnapping and third-degree assault at a District Court hearing.
Rocetes, 42, of Kahului was being held at Maui Memorial Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation prior to his arrest on July 15, authorities said.
Deputy Prosecutor John Tam said Rocetes approached the boy in the GameStop store in Kahului about 1:30 p.m. July 13 and hugged and kissed the boy, who complained to someone in the store.
A store manager told the boy to wait in the back until the man left. The boy later went to the nearby Fun Factory where he was accosted again by Rocetes, Tam said.
Rocetes grabbed the boy and asked if he wanted to go home with him, authorities allege, according to Tam.
The boy was struck on the shoulder and chin as he struggled to get free from Rocetes outside the Fun Factory and ran back to the GameStop, where the manager called security and police, Tam said.
