Welcoming 'Coppelia'

Tickets are available for Ballet Hawaii's first full-length production of "Coppelia," featuring stars from the San Francisco Ballet and Broadway's "Movin' Out" in lead roles.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

Considered the jewel of the classical ballet repertoire, "Coppelia" marks the end of Ballet Hawaii's summer training program. It tells the fantasy story of Dr. Coppelius and his wind-up dolls that come to life.

The production will star Joan Boada, principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet, and Amanda Schull, star of the film "Center Stage" and a member of the San Francisco Ballet, as well as Tony Award-nominated John Selya from the Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp musical "Movin' Out."

Also featured will be the Honolulu Symphony, plus dancers from the San Francisco Ballet, local performers and students from around the world. Choreographer is Magaly Suarez, formerly with the Cuban National Ballet.

Tickets are $25, $40 and $55, with discounts for students, seniors and military, available through the Blaisdell box office and Ticketmaster. Charge by phone by calling 877-750-4400, or log on to www.ticketmaster.com. For group sales information, call 521-8600.
