HERE'S TO KONA KAI!: "Big Beer Dave" Randall, left, toasted the Hawaiian sport of canoe paddling Wednesday as the Kona Kai Canoe Club presented "Episode II: Return of the Pajama Jam" at the Ocean Club. Randall's wife, KITV newscaster Jill Kuramoto, second from left, came straight from work, but some of Randall's fellow club members and their guests wore street-legal sleepwear or similar casual attire. Club treasurer Bev Kim, center, her husband, head coach Joe Kim, and club president Ron Ogino all went casual as the hosts of the club party. Kuramoto confirmed that Randall's robe is the one he wears when they're at home. Joe Kim volunteered that he wears "the shirt" -- and maybe the sleeping cap --- when he and Bev are home alone.

SUPPORTING KONA KAI: Val Garcia, left, Imelda Mateo and Geraldine Miguel watched the action from the back bar. Mateo said a mutual friend was in the club, so they came to show their support for paddling.

KONA KAI KNOWS HOW TO PARTY!: Kona Kai club member Kalei Lukela partied with Toni Castro and Imelda Mateo as the Ocean Club filled to capacity. A Kona Kai spokesman estimated that more than 1,200 people who bought tickets came to the party -- fortunately, not all at the same time.

A QUIET MOMENT: Jasmine Trias, right, relaxed backstage with her mother, Nora Trias, Tuesday evening before going out to meet her fans and sign copies of her debut album, "Jasmine Trias," at Kapono's.

TWO THUMBS UP FOR 'CHARLIE': Aron Dote of Krater 96, right, talked with Bob Tom and Wendy Loh of Kona Paradise Candies after the Tuesday night preview screening of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at Dole Cannery. Loh was "intrigued (and) inspired by the comedy and all the comical, whimsical things." Tom added that it's a good remake of "Willy Wonka" and that "they couldn't have picked anybody better (as Willy) than Johnny Depp."
