Corbett hits town to film
‘Mansions and Millionaires’

Michael Corbett of the newsmagazine "Extra" was at the Royal Hawaiian last week while filming "Mansions and Millionaires." The syndicated show gives viewers a look at estates, hotels, yachts and lifestyles of the rich and famous. The Royal and its Waikiki Beach area were used as backdrops for show segments. Corbett, who played a womanizer on "The Young and the Restless," drew a crowd during shooting. Paul Mitchell's estate and Roy's Restaurant are also in the show that will run on NBC in September ...

Baby Handl has returned from visiting relatives in the Philippines and is back working at East Oahu Realty. Baby, a former model and beauty queen, is the widow of former Kahala Hilton G.M. Richard Handl. Richard went on to become Hilton's president for hotels in Asia, Australia and other Pacific areas and was based in Tokyo. He died at 74 of cancer in June 2004. Besides real estate, Baby wrote a column called The Hawaii Connection for the Tokyo Weekender ...

Carolyn Berry e-mails from Huntersville, N.C., near Charlotte, that she and daughter Becky took in "Hairspray" at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the star was Keala Settle, originally from Laie. Carolyn reports Keala has an "outstanding voice and can dance with the best of them" ... Charlie Beeck, president of Tropical Roofing and Raingutters, had a group of six for dinner at the packed Chart House on the Fourth of July. Charlie had such a great viewing table for the fireworks that some of the staff gathered behind his party to watch the display ...

Kallen, Stephens add to Bistro's ambiance

The Bistro was a busy spot last Saturday night and proprietor Jackie Takeshita, a fashion plate, was on hand to see that things went smoothly. Diners enjoyed the food of exec chef Rodney Uyehara and the piano stylings of Tim Kallen. Sprinkled among the crowd were Kiana Gentry, Carole Brooks and Margaret Murchie. Tennyson Stephens took over the piano later. Among his fans were birthday girl Ruth Anne Jones of Safe Haven Shelter. She, Francine Cobbin and Talitha Chavis started the birthday celebration by catching jazz vocalist Azure McCall and Tennyson earlier at Chai's, where they have a 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday gig ...
