[ GADGETS ]

Good to the very, very, very last drop

art If you can't stand to waste a single drop of ketchup or sauce from a bottle, this gadget is for you. It's called the Ketchup Saver and uses gravity to easily transfer the contents from a near-empty bottle to another.

Simply screw on, for example, a bottle of ketchup to one end. Then screw on an old bottle of ketchup, still containing some scant remnants of precious sauce, to the other end. The old bottle sits upside down over the new one, and slowly, the contents of the old flow into the new bottle.

A simple funnel could do the trick, but with the Ketchup Saver you don't have to hold the bottle. Just leave it on the counter and let gravity do its job. The gadget is supposed to fit most glass or plastic bottles because the various widths of threading inside the cap. Find it at the Compleat Kitchen for $3.50.

The great rib-o-rama

If you fancy yourself an expert on ribs, your expertise is needed at Nuuanu Blues, Brews and BBQ, where 10 restaurants will compete in the Great Honolulu Rib Cook Off.

For $15 -- a portion of the money goes to the Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation -- you'll buy yourself a taste of all the competing ribs and a chance to vote for the People's Choice Award. The eating begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Murphy's Bar & Grill booth, at the end of Nuuanu Avenue.

The street festival itself runs from 5 to 10 p.m., with food, beer and wine sold all along Nuuanu. The blues will come courtesy of Jeff Said No, Downtown Charley and the Humbones and the Honolulu Blue Devils.
