They received an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., earlier this year and a $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate studies. » AARP Hawaii has appointed Sue Sakai and Leigh-Wai Doo to the Executive Council. Sakai is vice president and director of planning for Belt Collins Hawaii. Doo is an attorney and chief executive officer of the Palolo Chinese Home.

By Star-Bulletin staff LEEWARD OAHUMan arrested after wife reports threats in Waianae Police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping his wife and threatening to throw her into the ocean Thursday. The couple had been at a restaurant in Waianae about 11:30 p.m. when they got into an argument, police said. The wife, 39, left and was waiting by a bus stop when the suspect drove by and she got into his vehicle. The husband refused to release her and drove instead to Yokohama Bay, where he threatened to throw her into the water, police said. Bystanders came to the woman's aid, and the husband left in his vehicle. Police found him later and arrested him for investigation of kidnapping.
HONOLULUInformation sought in report of fondling Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a secure residential building on Kapiolani Boulevard. Police said the suspect allegedly grabbed the woman in an elevator of her building and fondled her. The incident occurred May 31 between 8 and 9 p.m. at 1617 Kapiolani Blvd. The suspect stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a mustache, and was wearing a white T-shirt and dark shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.
NEIGHBOR ISLANDSSouth Maui brush fire still presents a threat WAILUKU » Firefighters were attempting to contain a blaze yesterday that burned more than 100 acres of brush in the Kanaio area in South Maui. Bulldozers from the county and Ulupalakua Ranch, along with two helicopters making water drops, were helping to isolate the fire at the 16.5-mile post along Piilani Highway, Battalion Chief Alan Pascua said yesterday. Pascua said the fire was contained about four hours after receiving the call at 11:21 a.m., but conditions were "pretty unstable," with the potential of winds making the blaze jump over fire breaks.
Kauai police arrest 2 in 'ice' smuggling caseKauai police said they arrested two people Thursday whom they believe were transporting methamphetamine from Oahu to Kauai.The two Oahu residents, Ronald "Bong" Dejos, 36, and Alexys Legowicz, 26, have been charged with first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia after a short car chase in the Lihue area led to their arrest. They are both being held at a Kauai Police Department cellblock in lieu of bail. Kauai police officials also said they seized more than $5,000 in cash, three ounces of crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia such as scales and small plastic bags. The "ice" has an estimated street value of $5,000 an ounce. Anyone with information about drug dealing in their neighborhoods or drug trafficking to Kauai can call 241-1703 or 241-1702.
