By Star-Bulletin staff HONOLULUVisitor dies swimming near Portlock A 29-year-old Louisiana man died while swimming near Portlock in Hawaii Kai. Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada said the man had been swimming at an area called Spitting Caves off Poipu Place. The man jumped in the water and got into trouble. He started yelling for help and another man jumped in to help, Tejada said. But the second man, a local resident in his mid-20s, was unable to keep the victim's head above water. Fire rescue personnel jumped into the water and saved the second man. Rescuers brought the victim's body in from about 50 yards offshore. He was brought ashore, where he was pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner's Office did not release the man's name because positive identification had not yet been made.
NORTH SHOREMotorcyclist who died was isle soldier, 21 The Medical Examiner's Office identified the 21-year-old motorcyclist who died Sunday as Sean A. Brooke. Brooke was a soldier stationed at Schofield Barracks. His motorcycle collided with a car on Farrington Highway in Mokuleia 4:16 p.m. Sunday, police said. He was heading west on Farrington when he popped a "wheelie" and collided into an eastbound Mazda Miata. Brooke was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, a 16-year-old Oklahoma girl, was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the car was not injured.
