A taste of Thailand

Oahu's Thai restaurants are providing the culinary inspiration for Thai Cultural Day, 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Honolulu Hale.

The celebration marks the formation of the Thai Association of Hawaii, which was established in February to provide charitable, educational and religious support for the local Thai community.

Free events include a Thai fashion show, music and dance, fruit and vegetable carving, and demonstrations of banana-leaf works and Thai kickboxing.

A $25 food coupon allows for sampling of 10 dishes from the restaurants Chai's Island Bistro, Champa Thai, Malee Thai, Pae Thai, Siam Garden Café and Thai Mixed Plate. Drinks, dessert and door prizes are included.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward tsunami relief in southern Thailand.

For tickets or a schedule of events call 386-9914, 258-6199 or 218-8093.

Master your health

Dr. Steve Blake, a naturopathic physician and master herbalist, will speak on natural approaches to prevent disease at this month's Vegetarian Society of Hawaii meeting, 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the Ala Wai Golf Course clubhouse.

Blake developed one the largest computer databases of natural remedies and is the author of "Healing Medicine, A Complete Guide to Safer Healing."

He will discuss life habits that lead to disease, causes of illness beyond germs and ways to prevent problems from colds to cancer.

Admission is free. Call 944-8344.
