TheBuzz: Erika Engle
weds retired HPD
officer Gary Dias

E rika Engle, writer of the Star-Bulletin's newsy "TheBuzz" column, married Gary Dias June 11 in the Koolau Ballroom. In the wedding were Erika's sons, Zack, 17, and twins Dylan and Taylor, then 11, and daughter Cassidy, 15; as well as Gary's daughters Samantha, 10, and Alexis, 6. Gary's grown sons, Ryan and Kevin, attended the wedding as did Erika's mom, Mariko Engle, and sister, Monica Engle. Gary was the lieutenant in charge of HPD's Homicide Detail from the mid-1980s to the early '90s before retiring. He is now director of security at Queen's Medical Center. The newlyweds honeymooned at the Waikiki Beach Marriott and had dinner the first two nights at two of chef D.K. Kodama's restaurants in the hotel. The first was at d.k Steak House and the second at Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar. They were more than pleased with the food and service both nights and had high praise for D.K.'s mom, Sandy Kodama, for her warm hospitality. Erika's plate has been full lately. Moving day was June 16, the same day she attended an Easter Seals' "Taste of Honolulu" broadcast meeting. Last Sunday was not only Father's Day but the 12th birthday of her twins ...
