PORTFOLIO
Hanging with DadChristina Simpkins grew up taking pictures at her photojournalist father Bill Simpkins' side, snapping her first photo at the age of 4.In growing up, she left photography behind, but picked up a camera again after 9/11 and literally never stopped. "I went to lunch with a friend yesterday and she probably won't do that again because I was taking pictures the whole time, even the arrangement of the spring rolls," she said. "Even when I'm driving, I'm taking pictures out of my car window or framing them through the rearview mirror. "Some would say it's an obsession, but I think everything is worth capturing. "I think we become more compassionate and empathetic when we recognize other peoples' situations and when we see ourselves in others, and that's what we need to do more of," Simpkins said. "I know that sometimes when I take a shot I have an emotional connection to it, and it's my hope that others will have that same sort of shift in their spirit." For Father's Day, she snapped many more pictures than we could fit here, but many of her subjects were happy with the photos she presented to them as gifts for the occasion.
