Reekers leads Movers to first win of season

Jeffrey Reekers pitched five innings of no-hit ball to lead the Hawaii Island Movers past the Oahu Cubs 5-2 last night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Reekers, a right-hander from Ohlone Junior College in California, struck out three and walked two in earning the win.

Garrett Rice, Matt Alling and Michael Gehringer contributed two hits apiece for the Movers, who totaled 11.

The Cubs were limited to a single by Keahi Kapana and a double by Franz Yuen off relievers Jared Pate and Spencer Omalza. Omalza got credit for a save.

The Cubs scored single runs of Pate in the seventh and eighth innings. One was earned.

The Movers, who evened their record at 1-1, scored all five runs (two earned) in the first inning off Justin Cayetano, who pitched all eight innings for the Cubs.

Kim and Kim capture junior championships

Chan Kim of Honolulu and Kimberly Kim of Pahoa won the 2005 Aloha Section Westfield Junior PGA Championship yesterday at Turtle Bay.

Chan Kim, 15, shot 66 for a 2-day total of 137 and a four-stroke victory over Henry Park (70-71--141) of Waikoloa and Thomas Robertson (71-70--141) of Pukalani.

Kimberly Kim, 13, shot 77 for a total of 142 and a one-stroke victory over Britney Choy of Wahiawa (71-72--143).

Kim and Kim qualified for the national tournament, July 13-16, at Westfield Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.

Hershey track finals changed to June 26

The Hershey Youth Track and Field state finals originally scheduled for July 9 have been changed to June 26.

The meet is from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kaiser High School track.

Deadline for registration is Monday, 4 p.m. Call 586-6050 for more information.

Junior golf programs getting under way

Junior golf summer programs for Hawaii youth are being offered at 27 courses on four islands.

Clinics, classes and golf-related activities vary by course for golfers as young as 5. Some are offered year-round.

The courses on Oahu: Ala Wai (654-4531); Coral Creek (441-4653); Hawaii Kai (395-2358); Hawaii Prince (944-4567); Hickam/Mamala Bay (449-8048); Honolulu (441-9453); Kaneohe Klipper (254-1745); Koolau (236-4653); Ko Olina (676-5300); Mid-Pacific (261-9765); Oahu (595-3256); Turtle Bay (293-8574); and West Loch (680-0006).

On Maui: Kaanapali (661-3691); Kapalua (669-6500); Makena (879-3344); Waiehu (244-5934); and Wailea (875-5150).

On the Big Island: BIJGA (959-3380); Kamehameha Golf Park (345-4393); Kona (933-7559); Waikoloa Beach (886-7888); and Waikoloa Village (883-9621.
