The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Oil boosts Barnwell
Barnwell Industries Inc., riding the recent upswing in oil prices, jumped 10.1 percent this week to lead nine other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The oil and natural gas company, which also has Big Island real estate holdings, closed yesterday at a five-week high of $65.50 after falling below $60 earlier in the week. The stock has posted the second-highest gain in the index this year with a 76.7 percent increase.
Cyanotech Corp. rose 7.3 percent to $1.03, its highest level in five weeks. The Big Island producer of nutritional products trails the index this year with a 28.5 percent loss.
