Hawaii seniors capture tennis gold

Hawaii's Sue Ashford and Jane Pang won gold medals in the women's 60 doubles championship at the Summer National Senior Games yesterday in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Ashford and Pang defeated the Hawaii duo of Lurline Fujii and Roberta Sung 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 to win the division. Fujii teamed with Patrick Low to win gold in the Mixed Doubles 60 Division.

Inline hockey teams qualify for nationals

Da Kine of Oahu earned a trip to the inline hockey national tournament with a 5-3 win over Team Kauai in the 12-and-under division final at the regional tournament held at Kaomaaiku Park in Mililani.

Also securing berths in the national tournament to be held July 30-August 6 in New Jersey were Team Kauai (8-and-under), Oahu Go Bananas (10-and-under), Oahu 808 (14-and-under) and Mililani Kana'i (17-and-under).

Kusutani, Kimaiyo win half marathon

Sammie Kimaiyo and Sayuri Kusutani were the top male and female finishers in the Hawaiian Half Marathon held yesterday at Kapiolani Park.

Kimaiyo completed the race in 1 hour, 16 minutes to win the male open division. Kusutani finished in 1:26:57.6 to lead the women's field.
