Isle Bahai community marks Race Unity Day

Residents of all religious faiths and denominations are invited to celebrate Race Unity Day with the Honolulu Bahai at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Honolulu Bahai Center, 2165 10th Ave. in Palolo Valley.

In line with the theme of this year's program, "The Oneness of Mankind," Robert Imagire will talk about the elimination of prejudice. Ethnic songs and dances will be performed, and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Race Unity Day was inaugurated in 1957 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahai of the United States, the national governing body for the Bahai community, to promote racial harmony and understanding. It is sponsored annually on the first Sunday in June by members of the Bahai Faith throughout the nation.

The purpose of the day is to focus attention on what Bahais believe is the most challenging moral issue facing this country, racial prejudice. Baha'u'llah, the prophet-founder of the Bahai Faith, made the oneness of humanity under God and the elimination of all forms of prejudice the central point of his teachings.
