THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF
HAWAIIAN LIFE
IN THE UNIVERSE

art

Former Maui resident Timmy Hunt sent a shaka sign to everyone back in Hawaii from outside his Aloha Island Grille in Santa Cruz, Calif., which he started last year with business partner Numa Trepanier. Aloha Island Grille, at 1700 Portola Drive, serves Hawaiian-style plate lunches, along with appetizers such as ahi poke, Spam musubi, cone sushi and poi. The restaurant also features live Hawaiian music by entertainers such as Ho'okani and Vern Fernandez. "It's an awesome feeling to be able to share da aloha spirit with folks," Hunt told Star-Bulletin staffer Mark Coleman last month. "It's really nice to talk story with them all, too. I love my job!"

"The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe" is just that: We're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii. Send snapshots and a description to TSFSOHLITU, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 500 Ala Moana, Suite 7-210, Honolulu, HI 96813; or e-mail JPEGs or TIFFs to HiLife@starbulletin.com.
