Police display items
from pawnshop raid

Hundreds of items seized last month during a raid of a Chinatown pawnshop are being displayed online by the Honolulu Police Department.

Officers recovered a bounty of fishing reels, guitars and power tools at Local Pawn, 1174 Smith St., on April 9. Prior to the raid, police had established the owner of the pawnshop as someone who bought stolen goods from undercover officers on five occasions. The owner was arrested for theft and later released pending an investigation.

Police also raided Ziggy's Pawn Gold and Diamond Buyers, located at 746 Kapahulu Ave., on the same day they raided Local Pawn. Those items will be displayed online next month.

The property can be viewed online at www.honolulupd.org.

Prior to the raids last month, police busted a King Street pawnshop believed to have been the fence for stolen goods for a burglary ring. The owner of A-1 Pawn Shop was charged in December after he allegedly bought stolen items from undercover police officers and did not fill out pawn tickets for them.

How to file claims for items

Victims of theft or robbery who think they recognize one or more of the Local Pawn shop items as their own (online at www.honolulupd.org) can file a claim with police, but only if they have previously filed a police report, complete with a list of items stolen prior to April 8. Police are asking victims to call the district where their case occurred and to ask for the detective assigned to it.
