Bridal Guide readers
are hot on Hawaii
for honeymooning
SOME of the most prolific promoters of Hawaii are publications aimed at husbands-and-wives-to-be, such as New York-based Bridal Guide magazine.
An upcoming feature in the November-December issue will showcase Hawaii -- particularly Kauai -- as an ideal honeymoon destination.
"We do Hawaii in just about every issue," said Travel Editor Sherri Eisenberg. Five of the magazine's six annual issues have a Hawaii feature of one stripe or another.
"About 22 percent of our readers say that they're interested in going to Hawaii for their honeymoon," Eisenberg said.
It is the highest percentage among desired destinations that readers name in the magazine's reader surveys. Statistics and demographics collected by the magazine largely mirror those collected by Hawaii tourism officials, she said.
Eisenberg participated in a recent panel discussion along with contemporaries from the New York Times, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler and the Wall Street Journal "and they were all talking about how Dubai is so huge right now in travel ... and I just sat there laughing, because Dubai is not buzzing at all in honeymoon circles. People are not willing to go that far out of their comfort zone for their honeymoon," she said.
Considering that most newlyweds are in their 20s, "they haven't been-there-done-that. They're not the typical Travel + Leisure reader who's looking for the last place on earth they haven't been yet."
Hawaii offers exotic surroundings with English-speaking people, use of U.S. currency and other comforts of home, she said.
However, the magazine's coverage will focus on Hawaii's uniqueness, she said. Part of the travel section will be a roundup of "different, cool, fun, romantic and cultural things" to do on Kauai, she said.
The issue will be available in September.
