City Lips is one of several new products that promise fuller lips without visiting a doctor's office.

Plump you up

Color alone is OK in measuring the value of lip products when you're young and lovely and need little enhancement, but those of us who saw the '80s up close and personal expect medical miracles in every tube or vial. And these days, choosing a lip product is all about the plump factor.

Why? Just ask any male fan of Angelina Jolie. The actress no doubt has the lips that launched a thousand new lip plumpers at a cosmetic counter near you. A few examples:

» DuWop Venom, $15. This one has a spicy bubblegum flavor that will deliver a memorable sting with your kisses.

» Too Faced Lip Injection, $18.50. Vitamin B nourishes, while capsium is the magic ingredient that delivers the needle-less "injection."

» Lip Fusion, $38. This is Sephora's best-seller. The great thing about the store is you can always try before you buy.

I tried the Good Housekeeping recommended City Lips ($29), described as a collagen peptide lip-plumping treatment, and while a size increase wasn't obvious, it proved to be especially good at moisturizing, filling in and smoothing every crease, while grabbing on to any color you might follow it with, and glossiness that delivers at least the illusion of fuller, more luscious lips.

Which is OK. Jagger- or Tyler-esque lips would look ridiculous on me.

The product plumps itself up too, so when you slip the wand back into the tube, some gloss gushes back at ya. Just wipe the glass vial afterward.

Have Lipsticket, will travel

If you're like me and hate to lug a lot of stuff around, Sephora in Ala Moana has a new lip product for you.

Lipsticket ($16) is an folder bearing 30 "tickets," each about the size and width of a movie ticket.

Just tear off a few, tuck them into your pocket or purse, and when you need refreshing, remove the covering, fold the "ticket" in half, and use it like you're blotting your lips.

Each packet has three shades: "Aprés Skied in the Alps" (pale pink), "Passionate in Paris" (nude) and "Catwalked in Milan" (sheer berry).

The colors are subtle you could use more than one ticket for added drama.

It's great for women on the go.
