LOS ANGELES >> Flyweight boxer Ruben Contreras was in stable condition yesterday, three days after brain surgery, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Contreras, from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, had a seizure Saturday night shortly after he stopped fighting in the sixth round of a scheduled eight-round bout against Waipahu's Brian Viloria at Staples Center. The 32-year-old Contreras had surgery that night to relieve pressure from bleeding on his brain.
He remains in a medically induced coma, California Hospital Medical Center spokeswoman Katreena Salgado said.
There were no knockdowns in the fight, but Contreras was bleeding from the nose and mouth.
