Scouts Nicholas Scholas and Nicholas Robinson paid a moment of respect yesterday afternoon near the fountain at the top of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Scouts from across the island came to place leis on headstones in preparation for Memorial Day services.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka helped pin a Silver Star to the lapel of retired Army Master Sgt. Clarence Young during the Roll Call of Honor celebration. Young was awarded the medal for valor during the Korean War in 1951.
