"An Untold Triumph" will air on PBS on Memorial Day.




This ‘Triumph’ will finally
be told, 60 years later

Stretch your TV skills beyond pushing buttons on your remote control by joining a focus group for a new Hawaiian language TV series set to air on PBS Hawaii and some mainland markets. Volunteers will assist in the development of the program by discussing the show's content, Hawaiian language issues and program development. A session will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 today (call 545-2787 for the location and to reserve a seat) and there may be more sessions in the future. An online focus group is also planned. E-mail info@rolandjoseph.tv for information. ... Talking about PBS, the station will air "An Untold Triumph" at 10 p.m. Monday. The film, produced, directed and written by Noel "Sonny" Izon, is the story of the U.S. Army's 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, comprising immigrants living in Hawaii and on the mainland at the time Pearl Harbor was bombed. Izon was born in Manila and his father was a member of the Philippine guerillas. Lou Diamond Phillips, whose mother is Filipino, narrates the award-winning film, which screened at the 2002 Hawai'i International Film Festival. ...

Summer is coming, which means Easter Seals' annual Taste of Honolulu will soon be here. The three-day event in late June is always in need of volunteers and this year is no different. Five shifts are available and in addition to free admission into a world of tasty morsels from some of Oahu's finest restaurants, workers will get a T-shirt and $10 worth of scrips. Groups are also welcome to volunteer. The registration form can be found at www.taste808.com and the deadline to register has been extended to June 1. ...
